Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to submit across all four categories?

No, you can choose to submit in one or as many categories as you like. Please note that while you may take multiple images for a category, you should only be submitting your preferred best photograph per category.

Do I need a camera to take photos?

Your smartphone can be as good as a camera for taking photos. We ask that you avoid submitting blurry or distorted images and only submit photos of reasonable quality.

I want to participate but I don’t have a phone or camera.

If you do not have any means to take photos, we encourage you to reach out to family or friends who can help you in lending a phone/camera.

Any photography tips?

Seniors wishing to participate in the competition have the opportunity to attend a series of free camera workshops hosted by WA Seniors Card and Camera Electronic at Have a Go Day on 13 November 2024. More information regarding this workshop will be made available soon.

Seniors are also encouraged to utilise YouTube for more practical tips on photography.

How are the photos judged?

Submissions are judged in two different ways. First, a judging panel consisting of relevant organisations and/or experts in the photography field are appointed by WA Seniors Card to determine the winners and runners-up for each category.

Second, a People's Choice vote is conducted on WA Seniors Card’s Facebook page, where the public can vote on photos by ‘liking’ the image.

Winners and runners-up from the judging panel are announced in early February 2025, whereas the People’s Choice winner is announced in late February 2025.

What are the prizes?

WA Seniors Card partners with various businesses throughout the year, some of which generously sponsor the competition. Prizes will be updated on our Golden Lens page as they are confirmed.
